Our History
Gateway has a long history of serving the orphans and vulnerable children of Kenya. Take a look at our progression over the years and commit in your heart to help us reach new heights in the years to come.
2010
Gateway beginning
The hearts of the founder Melette Meloy was being changed by missionary trips to Kenya. The people were captivating and the need was great. God was at work before there was a physical school.
2012
First classrooms
Gateway officially opened it's doors in 2012 with 3 classrooms, one administrative office, and a small kitchen area.
2014
Additional classroom building
As the children grew older, Gateway wanted to continue to nurture them. In 2014 missionaries assisted the school to build two additional classrooms. This allowed for more time to nurture and teach the children.
2016
Building donation
A local tea company donated a building that had two classrooms and administrative areas. The area was thought to serve as a dormatory, but due to the need for classroom space it never reached that goal. This area allowed for additional classroom space while Gateway continued to care for more children.
2018
First School Bus
At one time the children were being crammed into a mini-van to transport them home. With the growth of Gateway it was becoming unsafe. It took over a year of saving to raise enough funds for the first School bus.
2019
Piped water
Kenyans struggle daily to have clean water to drink. Most walk miles to carry water for the family on a daily basis. Gateway had a similar problem. God provided a way to get piped water to the school. Combined with a water filtration device clean water was now possible.
2020
Land additions
The original 2012 land purchase was the lower left hand corner of the property. Gateway was told that land does not come up for sale and that we would not be able to expand. God provided land and funds through the years to increase the size of the school.
2019-2021
Classroom Block
To continue to pour into these precious children more classrooms were needed. Construction of a 2 story classroom block allowed for continued expansion. This addition also allowed for a playground, volleyball court, and football field (ie soccer).
2019
Additional grades
Gateway continued to add grades to include PP2 (kindegarten) all the way to 6th grade. The student count was nearing 300. All possible through the grace of God and some amazing sponsors.
2023
Kitchen & Dining Hall
The children had been eating at their desks and the catering staff were chopping wood and working over open flames. In time, God provided a modern kitchen and dining hall for the children.
